logging on at our workstations
our red glitter tap shoes
out of spotlight’s gaze
below the camera fold
grounding feet in stardust
performance-ready
it begins
an assessment of worth
that too much is not enough
that it’s time to reign it in, tiger
stay fawn, mute swan
ok then
it’s time to be a tardis
to be wee on the outside
but we’ll stay bigger inside
thank you
worker bees us
nobody fears our soft bodies
but our secret super powers can sting
we learn hiding skills from the chameleon
like dragons, we keep our fire below deck
the horn of our unicorn is detachable
our mighty flea takes a comfort break
from leaping
like the sonic screwdriver
no-one knows our power
til it’s time to use us
who will love what is bigger on the inside
who can be old yet still be into new tricks
is there a doctor who will see me now, in person
we’re nodding politely, on mute
tapping our red glitter shoes under the desk
while we teleport to a less hostile planet
