ode to hot flush

your warmth I love the most

a fuzzy blanket

circumnavigating

not a shroud

you wash me in waves of

self-soothe, tempt me into slowing down

a tropical forest thrives north and south

I’m bloody glowing, still here, alive and growing

not yet cut down, in a moonlight frenzy

my silverback sits, dreaming

under a henna forest glaze

thanks to you, I still cycle in ways of

layers (on and off)

childhood thoughts (they never leave)

seeking out circulating air

drinking a cool haze through metal straw,

I don’t drink the Kool-Aid, no

I am a rose, hardy and holding on

my thorns are protection,

I’m so deliciously unpluckable
