not a teardrop

this grief is not a teardrop drying

in the sun

it is a desert flower

this grief is not a wave crashing

but a tsunami, with only survivors

this grief is not a dark puddle in a pothole

clearing with every tire splash

but the longest river in the world that

bends and twists in knots from mountain to sea

where it joins the world’s ocean tears
