Nora Ephron made me see that setbacks in life and love are simply the story of our lives

Life is life. It is infinitely interesting and actually never boring unless you decide it to be so. As soon as you decide that all of life is interesting there are infinite possibilities for enjoying life and communicating what you have learned to others.

As you get older you realise that somehow along the way, all your experiences seem to have made you wise. The gift of sharing your wisdom is plentiful if you can see it as that whilst still learning so much more about life. She made me understand that, even with your best intentions, many relationships don’t last forever.

When I was younger, I believed that love could conquer all problems. That if I loved someone hard enough then all would be fine and they would love me back. I discovered the futility of that whenever I was ready to pick up the pieces of myself after a broken relationship.

Whatever our experiences in life, whatever our heartaches, it’s all part of our experience, our story of life. There has never been a heartache that I cannot recover from. I have learned to roll with the punches and to play dead when a bear comes after me.

“And then the dreams break into a million tiny pieces. The dream dies. Which leaves you with a choice: you can settle for reality, or you can go off, like a fool, and dream another dream.”
