love your body

learn anatomy if it helps

but love it like you love your best friend

who, by the way, is NOT perfect.

love the muscles and their different moods and memories

love the sinew that keeps you whole and together, love the fascia that holds you tenderly.

love the tendons, stability

love the ligaments, forgiving when warm, but brutally brittle on days when you don’t move like you love yourself

love your capillaries, they show up in times of need

love those arteries for they will only give up on you once in your life

keep the veins closed until it’s time to open them, keep valves flexible and compassionate

and the heart, oh the heart! where love has nestled since the time of perhaps, a time before we could read, write, or speak.

from the days before we knew our own bodies, we knew the heart.

we knew it was the first to give up on us when love has gone
