for Jill and Ally

You caught my saddest glance, love

floating above my head,

too high for the naked eye. You saw

invisible arms,

open to a stranger room. You

kept your swords down,

sheathed them. Open

to the room’s traffic, thank you

for kind,

open hearts

free from

the betrayals of

flagged small talk,

dogged chit chat,

jagged niceties.
