empathy

the planet holds on, that slight shifting on a tilt

a wobble to bring itself back on course

empathy can be anything I choose it to be

an overfilled pail of water, waiting to be kicked

a one-word sentence with a full stop

a silence that says I’ll stay here

but your flame won’t flicker inside me

now, take hold of my hand

so you will know my separateness
