clothes do not maketh me, cake does

I love my wee self more than my clothes

I have shoes with gap-toothed smiles

Neglected leggings kept whole with safety pins

My lockdown jacket clings to me with salty hope

Jumpers with more bobbles than a Where’s Wally convention

Pants with thumb-hole handles

Peek-a-boo socks

And when the people come with their measuring sticks

to beat me, I shall take my wee self to the hiding cave,

in shame…following the…

crumbs of shame

until I find the

cake of shame, feast

on the whole

cake of shame

Safe.

The cake of shame tastes good

All homemade cakes taste good
