carnival bird

We watch the captive bird go viral on Instagram, punching out colourful strips of paper with its beak to then tuck under its wing. Like it’s off to the bird carnival later and needs some tail feathers to shake. Some comments say the bird is reacting in stress to its wings being clipped. Other comments claim this is a natural instinct for nest building and we’ve mistaken it for dressing up. I say to the mirror it might be both, while I draw a thick smoky line around the top of my eyelids to signal that the light in my eyes still burns.
